FriYAY, August 11th

 Hello everyone!

What a joyful week this has been. I will never be able to adequately express my heartfelt gratitude for your participation, engagement, and excitement during in-service. I truly enjoyed spending time with you and getting to know more about so many of you. The same thought kept running through my mind, "What I wouldn't give to have had these teachers when I was in high school!" Our students are so lucky to have you.

Here are a few reminders for next week!

Capturing Kids' Heart Expectations
During the first 1.5 - 2 weeks of class, I want you to take the time you need to get settled, meet your students, get to know them, and start building relationships. Starting on Day 1, greet your students at the door, make eye-contact, shake their hands, (or high-five, fist-bump, elbows, whatever fits you best!) Learn their names and love them like you always do!

After about a week and a half, please start to build your social contracts, agree upon the behaviors for each one of your classes and make sure you post those contracts in your room. When going over your class procedures, you should include the discipline model we all went through. Decide what your class consequences will be. Teach the students about timeouts, checks, fouls, put-ups, good things, one clap - we all clap, and any other tool you would like to use!

I hope you all understand the power you have - the power WE have as a school to do this well and build a culture where our students are all looking out for each other, treating each other with respect, and growing closer together each and every day. It won't work if there are some of us who don't follow through, make fun of it, or complain about it. We are better than that and I ask that you try it and then, see the difference it can make. Be open-minded and open-hearted.

Dining Hall Reminders

Please do not ever cut through the kitchen when walking around campus. You are welcome to cut through the dining hall but for safety concerns, please do not walk through where our dining hall staff is cooking or preparing food.

If you are getting anything from the dining hall other than ice or a drink from the fountain machine, you must go through the register. Everything has to be logged and accounted for so our dining hall staff knows what and how much to order.

We appreciate your help with this!
