Friday, December 20th

I could not have asked for a better devotional for the last day before Christmas Break!

"The soft glow emanating from the manger where the baby Jesus lay tells us of the consolation of God's nearness, but the night of Jesus's birth must have felt out of control for Mary. It's not hard to imagine Mary's exhaustion and Joseph's worries. Jesus almost certainly cried...

When I feel out of control or powerless, you are by my side. Help me to turn to you when I am weak, to rely on your love as the foundation of my life..."

Christmas can sometimes seem chaotic and oftentimes, I can get lost in the rush and forget what we are really celebrating. I hope all of us can remember the most selfless act in history - when God sent His own son to us - and celebrate that this Christmas season!

Gym Foyer Bathrooms
Over Thanksgiving we did some testing related to plumbing and realized there is a significant project that needs to be done in the restrooms and concessions area of the gym foyer. The contractor has agreed to do this in the two week window of our Christmas break. That area will be out of commission for the duration of the Christmas holiday. We have already communicated with athletics regarding practices and use of the gyms. Thanks!

Please remember that on Friday, January 3rd we will have an on-line in-service day. There will be some committee meetings and work will be done on the Self-Study Report for Accreditation.

In the afternoon, we have the opportunity to serve together at Feed My Starving Children. Thank you, Dawn, for setting this up!

Advent Devotional
Today's Lyric, "O come, O Key of David, come and open wide our heavenly home."

I loved this part, "As Key of David, Jesus is the most crucial key to our existence as God's beloved sons and daughters. He is the key that closes doors on sin and death and opens doors that lead us to freedom and new life."

I pray that our hearts throughout this Advent season are opened to Christ and the true meaning of Christmas.

New Employee in Finance
Agnes Dael will be joining our JPII Accounting team as Assistant Controller.  Her first day with us is Wednesday, December 4th.  Please welcome Agnes to the Cardinal family!

Bio:
Born and raised in the Philippines, I graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila where I received my Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. After obtaining my CPA license in the
Philippines, I ventured into public accounting which brought me to the United States in 2005 through PWC Cincinnati. Throughout my career, I’ve held other finance roles outside of public
accounting: from corporate general accounting, financial reporting to financial planning & amp; analysis, and most recently, as a Controller to a private-equity company based in TN.

My husband, Kris, and I have been married for 18 years and we’re blessed with 2 sons: Gabriel (14 y.o. and a current freshman at JP2) and Matthew (12 y.o.), and 2 lovely dogs: Jack (maltipoo) and Beaux (goldendoodle). I enjoy spending time with my family – watching my kids play
their favorite sport or activity of the season, family movie nights, going to out-of-town trips or simply exploring new places in the area when weather permits. I love the colder weather, especially the holidays that are just right around the corner. I am super excited to be officially a
part of the Cardinal family, not just as a parent, but now as part of the accounting team serving our school community and supporting its mission.

Matt Larson Update
Matt Larson ('17) is doing quite well!  The operation removed a little over 80% of the brain tumor.  After biopsy, they believe the rest can be quelled by chemotherapy, through a pill taken once a day for a year.

Side effects are typically mild, so he should keep his hair.  Matt will have a scan in mid January to see how successful the operation and the healing process truly was and to assess the exact treatment going forward.

A very interesting aspect of all of this is that the doctors believe his bi-polar disorder was a symptom of the tumor.  In fact, one of them is interested in studying this further.  Of course, we appreciate continued prayers!

Nurse's Pass (from Ginny Spurrier)
Every student coming to the nurse's office needs a pass. If they arrive without one, the student will be returned to get one.  This not only provides documentation for their visit but holds the students accountable for the time they are out of your class. If you need any clinic passes please email the nurses and they will put some in your box.

Facilities Update from Ashley McCarty
We have several Facilities capital projects that are ongoing.  We wanted to provide you with an update for each of these projects.

Roof - All roof repairs have been completed so we would expect no more water intrusion.   The final step of this project is to paint the barrel roof.  We expect this painting and the total project to be completed in December 2024.

Window Facade Project - Now that the roof repairs are complete, we are ensuring that all of our windows are also water-tight.  To date, this project has been disruptive for some of you, and we apologize for that.  We are meeting with the Project Manager on Oct 24 and to confirm expectations and discuss the challenges that we have experienced with this team.  If there are any additional disruptions to any of your classrooms, please let us know.

HVAC project - Siemens has also made very good progress.  This project is expected to conclude in December 2024.

Life Safety Project - This project team has just started this project on-site the week of Homecoming.  This project team will be working 4 days a week (Monday - Thursday) beginning at 4pm.  This project team will be inside the school walls and all personnel have cleared background checks.  They have been instructed not to use your teacher workrooms.  Any meetings that they need to have will take place in Wesley's office or the Central Utility Plant on-site.

The only personnel that will be on-site and using our restroom facilities will be the HVAC and Life Safety project teams.  The roof and facade project teams will use the facility outside.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
