Exam Week Morning Announcements and Prayer
Please use THESE slides next week to go over announcements and prayer before you exams. Thank you!

Inclusion Formation Student Council (feedback needed)
Our newly formed IFC would like your feedback One of the things they are hoping to address and help us with is how to best handle any offensive language you may hear from our students, whether that is in your classrooms, at practices, in the dining hall, etc. They have done a wonderful job presenting to the students in class meetings and we are going to have the opportunity to hear from them during our in-service on January 8th. In order for them to be best prepared, please take a few minutes and complete THIS survey. I appreciate it!

Mailboxes in Workroom
Please make sure that you are checking your mailboxes in the workroom at least once a week. There are some that are very full!

Mistake in Printer Planner
I apologize for my mistake everyone. In the printed calendar in our planners, February 23rd shows as a student holiday and a B day. It is NOT a student holiday and we will have a normal B day.

Updates are in GREEN!!

Math and Theology Change
I wanted to update everyone on a small shift we are going to make in our office. Dr. Ripley is going to have more responsibilities with our Math and Theology departments. If anyone from those departments have academic questions or concerns, please direct them to her. She will also be visiting the classrooms of those departments and evaluating them moving forward.

School Rental on 12/16
Crowd Pleasers will be renting out the school to hold a drill team competition, hosted by the Cardinal Belles, next Saturday 12/16. The gyms, dining hall, freshmen classrooms, and a few sophomore classrooms will be used for this event. The Junior and Senior side of the school will be closed off and not used. Bethany Ralston will be sending out emails to the teachers in those areas whose classrooms will be used for the event. The Cardinal Belles will be going around to these classrooms during the day on Friday 12/15 to begin setting things up and communicating with those teachers to ensure their classroom gets set up exactly the way it was after the event is over! The drill teams who registered to compete also had to sign a facility agreement waiver and agree to pay fines for any damage or mess left behind, so we promise to take good care of your rooms!
The new comments from last week are in orange! Please take some time to read the wonderful remarks!

Stress Buster Week - Counseling
Check out the FLYER so all of the fun activities counseling has planned during Cardinal Break next week!

Bring any found items to the Academic Administration Office as soon as possible. While we always have Lost and Found available to the students to retrieve their items, we have quite a large collection of items currently and are going to encourage students to come to the office next week to claim their items.  Items will be in the Academic Conference Room.  Please bring any items you have and add them to the tables. Students and parents will receive notifications and reminders to stop by and pick up their items. We hope all students can recover anything they have lost this semester. Items will be on display Friday 11.03.23 through Friday, 11.10.23.

Please take some time to self-assess!

Just a reminder that as I and the Deans walk through classrooms, we will be looking for things on this form. There are some great goals in all sections so please take some time to review!

CKH Resources
If you have not logged in to https://www.capturingkidshearts.org/ and spent some time in their resources, PLEASE DO!! There is so much goodness here and so many activities, ideas, lessons, launches, ways to engage, ways to explore, ways to communicate...it is amazing!

CKH Strategist
Thank you so much to all of the teachers who welcomed our CKH Strategist, Allyson Price, into your classrooms today. Allyson will be with us all year as we continue to implement the CKH Processes at JPII.

CKH Looking Ahead
I hope you know by now that this was not a two-day in-service that you will never hear about again. It is a program and process that we will continue to build at JPII. We now have a team of Process Champions (listed below) here on campus who attended an all day training yesterday. They will be people you will hear from often and who you can go to with questions about Capturing Kids' Hearts. Also know that in the next couple of months, I will be sending out specific CKH surveys to our students, teachers, and staff to collect data as we continue to grow these processes here.

Dia de los Muertos

Penelope and Stephanie have been working with their classes and discussing Day of the Dead, November 1st and 2nd, and its connection to All Souls Day and All Saints Day. The students will be putting up "ofrendas" in the hallway to remember and honor the deceased. They are encouraging their students to bring photos of family members to place on the ofrenda in their honor. They would like to open this up to all faculty and staff as well.  There are 6 tables in the hall in the Freshman House set up that will be decorated by Friday. Please bring anything you would like to display to Penelope or Stephanie!

Shining the Light Teachers
Starting next week, I will be sending a link in our weekly parent newsletter and emailing students a link to give them the opportunity to shine the light on their teachers.  I can't wait to read about the wonderful things they have to say about you! I will be spreading those positive messages throughout our community all during the year!

Friday, October 20th

As I and the Deans continue visiting classrooms, one thing we have noticed and want to stress moving forward is Student Engagement. As mentioned many times during different PD opportunities, students learn differently than they did in the past and student engagement is a necessity in all schools today. Dr. Ripley has some wonderful advice this week around this topic!

Capturing Kids' Hearts
There are two documents that you need to review. The first is a self-assessment that will be a great reflection for you to do on your own. How are you doing with each goal? Are you greeting at the door? Are you starting with Good Things?

The second is an Observation form that the Deans and I will be using and focusing on this quarter. When we visit your classrooms we will be looking for the things listed. Please take some time to review this form as well.

Lastly, on October 27th our Capturing Kids' Hearts advisor will be visiting JPII for the day. Her name is Allyson Price. We may be popping into your classroom to see the wonderful things you are doing!

P-Card Procedure Reminders
Any time you are making a purchase with any school issues P-card, it is incredibly important for you to save any and all receipt. Please ensure that you are doing this and that the receipts are turned into the owner of the P-card. Electronically is preferred and you can scan any paper receipts you have. Thank you!

Students Making Up Seat Time
We have been keeping a close eye on students' attendance and trying to get ahead of any issues. Unfortunately, some students are already at a point where they need to make up seat time in order to receive credit for classes they pass.

A quick synopsis on the 90% Rule in case you're curious or if students ask:
Students must attend 90% of each class in order to obtain credit. Absences due to JPII activities or medical reasons signed off by a medical professional DO NOT count towards the 90%. Absences for nearly any other reason (including parent notes) DO count against the 90%. Students are only allowed 4 absences per class per semester before needing to make up seat time.

A few things for you to know about making up seat time:
  • Students' seat time is cumulative over all of their classes, however, they can make up seat time with any teacher/for any class.
  • Students may make up seat time with you before/after school or during Cardinal Break.
  • Please make sure that students are actually completing academic work if they are working for seat time. Ideally they should be doing work or getting help for your class, but it is permissible if they work on something else, as long as it is for another class.
  • Students will not be able to back date any tutorials that happened prior to receiving their time sheet.
  • I ask that you write on the time sheets in pen and fill in the date, length of time, and your signature.
I (Allie Choiniere) will begin meeting with students and contacting parents next week to give them the same information with some intermittent deadlines for seat time.

Thank you for everything you do to encourage students to come to class and even offer second chances when they don't!

Tiny Desk Concerts!!
Have you ever seen a concert around a bunch of books? Well here's your chance! For the first time ever, JPII will have a fun concert every month in the Atheneum. October's concert will be on Thursday, performed by our very own Mr. E and Mrs. Choiniere. The FREE concert will be after school at 3:45pm and will only be about 20-30 minutes long. Buy a cookie or a snack and come to watch them sing some popular songs!

Veterans' Day Breakfast
We will be hosting a Veterans' Day Breakfast and would love to honor all Veterans in our community! Please complete this form to let us know if you are a veteran so we can honor you and your service.
