Advice from Academics
This week's advice is Checking for Understanding
Bishop Grahmann Award
Each year this award is presented quarterly to honor select members of the senior class and at the annual academic awards program to honor underclassmen. A student can only receive the Bishop Grahmann Award one time while attending John Paul II High School. The Bishop Grahmann award was established in 2005 in honor of Bishop Charles V. Grahmann, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Dallas, for his faithful support of John Paul II High School. This award is presented to students who exhibit the following characteristics:
- displays a strong work ethic and a positive attitude
- serves others through their community service ministry
- strives to deepen their faith
- models good citizenship
- demonstrates leadership
To make it easier for you to nominate, there has been an assignment added to Google Classroom, but this is not a requirement!
THIS is the link but it can also be found in Google Classroom. The deadline for nominations is Monday, October 16th at 12:00 PM.
Catholic Colleges Campus
On Wednesday next week (10/18), 32 Catholic universities will have representatives on campus for our students to talk with to learn more about their schools. They will only be on campus during B lunch and the very beginning of C lunch (11:15am - 12:00pm). They will be set up in the hallways between the dining hall, spanning to the Pope statue, and down the halls towards the freshman and junior houses.
10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who wish to visit with any of the schools but have A lunch or C lunch are being asked to talk with you for permission. This decision is at your discretion. If you do allow your students to attend, Melissa Fernandez will be able to write them a pass back to class. Please do not send entire classes unless you are willing to assist supervising. Thank you!
CSO AI Guidelines
The Catholic Schools Office recently released AI Guidelines that all Diocesan schools are welcome to use and share. Feel free to review these and use them as needed in your classes. I hope they are helpful.

Grading Policies
As we wrap up Quarter 1, I wanted to make sure you all reviewed our grading policies going into Quarter 2. Should you have any questions please reach out to your department chair and/or supervising dean.
TEACHER GRADEBOOK
Teachers will maintain their grades in an electronic format, which will be available to students and parents online via Cardinal Connect. Teachers will be responsible for maintaining detailed and accurate records of students’ grades in these grade books and updating the information weekly. A minimum of three grades must be entered in the grade book prior to Progress Reports. Grades cannot be changed unless there were errors or school grading policies were not followed. Once the JPII grade calculating deadline for nine-week or semester grades has passed, if any changes are warranted, the teacher is responsible for making appropriate corrections after receiving approval from the Dean of Academics and the Registrar.
JPII Cookbook
Please send 2 or 3 of your favorite recipes to me to include in the JPII cookbook.
Categories are:
- Main Dishes
- Side Dishes
- Salads
- Desserts and Breads
The proceeds will be donated to a charity approved by Kayla in the name of JPII High School.
Thanks!
Lisa
